I was awoken at 3:10am from a deep sleep in the attic at Trev's place as he tapped on the trap door advising me it was time to depart. After a quick brekkie we loaded the last few items into the ute and picked up Graham from the
Ashgrove Avenues, and made our way out along the Cunningham highway. As we approached Cunningham's gap the temperature plummeted and Graham soon realised that the bare bones Hilux of 1990 vintage was missing a few luxury items like a heater, soft suspension, and rear head rests. After rendezvousing at the Warwick Macca's, we met again in the main street of Tenterfield for one last meal before driving to the outskirts of town and preparing our bikes in the gusty and bitterly cold wind.

We set off to the south east through farmland along a fast sealed road, with the assistance of a strong tail wind. 13km in we hit dirt as we entered the Billyrimba section of state forest, and relative protection from the wind. After a quick break for lunch, we were back on the bikes. Several km down the track it started to rain.....but it was bouncing off us and our bikes.....it was actually sleet! That was enough motivation to make tracks for our campsite quickly.
